NOV 03: Vice-President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan attended the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Fatima Mata National College, Kollam, as Chief Guest, commemorating 75 years of the college’s outstanding contribution to education and nation-building since its founding in 1951.

The event was graced by Kerala Governor Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Union Minister Shri Suresh Gopi, Kerala Finance Minister Shri K. N. Balagopal, and Bishop Rev. Dr. Paul Antony Mullassery, among other dignitaries, faculty, and students.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice-President said that education coupled with character building is the foundation of a strong and compassionate society. He emphasized that true education nurtures self-discipline, service, and social responsibility — values essential for a Viksit Bharat.

Quoting Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar, he said that education is the greatest wealth a person can possess, urging students to cultivate discipline and lifelong learning. Referring to the college motto Per Matrem Pro Patria (“Through the Mother for the Fatherland”), he lauded the institution’s legacy of integrity, courage, and community spirit.

The Vice-President also called for a “No To Drugs” mass campaign, describing drug abuse as a grave threat to youth and society. He urged parents, teachers, and students to join hands in creating drug-free communities nationwide.

Highlighting the importance of responsible use of social media, Shri Radhakrishnan urged youth to use technology for truth, compassion, and unity. Commending Kerala’s educational achievements, he expressed confidence that Fatima Mata College will celebrate its centenary in a Viksit Bharat, continuing its role as a “temple of wisdom and lighthouse of values.”
