Rajnath Singh Launches Green & R&D Initiatives to Boost Defence Self-Reliance

NOV 10: Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurated the state-of-the-art DPSU Bhawan at Naoroji Nagar, New Delhi, on November 10, 2025, and chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs). The event also marked the felicitation of Munitions India Limited (MIL), Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), India Optel Limited (IOL) and Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) for achieving Miniratna (Category-I) status.

Commending the DPSUs, Shri Rajnath Singh praised their role in advancing the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing. He highlighted that India achieved defence production worth ₹1.51 lakh crore in 2024–25, with DPSUs contributing 71.6%, while exports reached ₹6,695 crore, reflecting growing global confidence in Indian systems.

The Raksha Mantri urged DPSUs to accelerate R&D, indigenisation, quality enhancement, and export-oriented strategies, assuring full government support. Three MoUs were signed among DPSUs to promote modernisation, including a 10,000-ton Forging Press initiative led by HAL, BDL, and YIL, and a Metal Bank at MIDHANI to ensure raw material availability.

He also launched SWAYAM – Sustainable and Green Defence Manufacturing, focusing on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and carbon reduction. IOL and BEL were felicitated for achieving 100% renewable energy usage.

The newly inaugurated DPSU Bhawan, developed by the Department of Defence Production, serves as a collaborative hub for all 16 DPSUs to enhance innovation and synergy under the motto “Sangachhadhwam Samvadadhwam”Move together, dialogue together.
