NOV 20: The Centre for Women’s Studies (CWS) at Government College for Women (GCW) Parade, Jammu, organised a one-day workshop on “Yashoda AI Squad: Your AI Sakhhi for Shaping Horizons with Digital Awareness” on November 19. The initiative, jointly launched by the National Commission for Women (NCW) and Future Shift Labs (FSL), aims to build the next generation of AI-aware and digitally empowered young women.
The workshop was held under the patronship of Principal Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo and the overall supervision of Dr. Seema Malpotra, Convener, Centre for Women’s Studies. Students from Science and Commerce streams enthusiastically participated, gaining awareness about various AI tools, the risks associated with their misuse, and the psychological impacts of excessive AI dependency. Discussions also focused on adopting safe digital practices to safeguard personal wellbeing.
Dr. Iesha Sharma delivered the welcome address and introduced the resource persons—Dr. Shahid Mushtaq, faculty member at the School of Business Studies, Central University of Jammu and Vice Chairman, ISTD Chandigarh Chapter, and Riya Sandal, Programme Associate at Future Shift Labs. Dr. Shahid highlighted how technological innovations from the 1990s onward—including mobile phones, e-commerce giants like Amazon, and cash-on-delivery systems—have reshaped everyday life and created new digital opportunities. He guided students on effectively applying digital knowledge and using AI tools responsibly to address real-world challenges.
The workshop also spotlighted the objectives of the Yashoda AI Abhiyan, a pioneering national campaign designed to make AI education accessible, inclusive, and safe for women and underprivileged groups. The programme aims to bridge the digital divide, promote ethical AI usage, and empower women to participate confidently in a rapidly evolving, tech-driven world. As India’s first large-scale gender-tech literacy model, Yashoda AI seeks to build resilience, foster equality, and prepare women for leadership roles in the AI era.
Principal Dr. Tickoo appreciated Dr. Seema Malpotra and the organising committee members—Dr. Usha Devi, Dr. Ramesh Chander, Prof. Sukhvinder Kaur, and Prof. Komal Bangotra—for their efforts in conducting the programme successfully. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Pallavi Jamwal.
