NHRC to Host Human Rights Day Function on 10 December 2025 in New Delhi

4 Dec: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India will commemorate Human Rights Day with a major national event at Auditorium 1, Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on 10 December 2025 at 10:00 am. The event, one of the Commission’s most significant annual observances, marks the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on this day in 1948 — a landmark document that continues to guide global human rights frameworks.

The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, will be the Chief Guest and deliver an address highlighting India’s commitment to upholding and promoting human rights for all citizens.

National Conference on ‘Ensuring Everyday Essentials: Public Services and Dignity for All’

Following the inaugural function, the NHRC will organise a National Conference on the theme ‘Ensuring Everyday Essentials: Public Services and Dignity for All’, in alignment with this year’s global theme — Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials.

The conference aims to bring renewed focus to the critical role of public services in ensuring equitable and dignified living conditions. Discussions will revolve around achieving universal access to essential services such as health, education, water, sanitation, mobility, and social welfare — all of which are core components of human rights.

Keynote Address by Dr. P. K. Mishra

The keynote address at the conference will be delivered by Dr. P. K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, who will attend as the Chief Guest for the conference segment. His address is expected to underline the government’s commitment to strengthening human rights protection through improved governance, service delivery, and people-centric policies.

The conference will feature two thematic sessions, each led by eminent speakers, policymakers, experts from academia, civil society representatives, and human rights advocates.

Broad Participation from National and State Institutions

The event is expected to draw participation from a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including:

  • State Human Rights Commissions

  • National Commissions

  • Senior officials from the Government of India and States/UTs

  • Human rights defenders

  • Civil society organisations

  • Academic professionals

  • Media representatives

Their presence will contribute to rich deliberations on challenges, solutions, and best practices in safeguarding human dignity through effective public service systems.

Online Registration Open Until 9 December

The NHRC has opened online registration for individuals wishing to attend the function and the conference. Interested participants may register at the link provided by the Commission before 10:00 am on 9 December 2025.
