DEC 23 : Indore witnessed a significant cultural and national event on December 21, 2025, as Vice President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, attended the programme titled “Shunya Se Shatak: Ek Shatabdi Atal Bharat Ki,” organised to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The event highlighted the enduring legacy of Vajpayee’s vision for India’s political, social and cultural growth.
Held in the presence of dignitaries and citizens, the programme paid tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s contributions to nation-building, democratic values and inclusive development. The Vice President reflected on Vajpayee’s role as a statesman who combined firm leadership with dialogue and consensus, leaving a lasting imprint on India’s governance and foreign policy.
On the occasion, Vice President Radhakrishnan, along with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Governor Mangubhai Patel, unveiled a statue of Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai at the Daily College campus in Indore. The unveiling ceremony added a historic dimension to the event, honouring Devi Ahilyabai’s legacy as a visionary ruler, social reformer and symbol of good governance.
Addressing the gathering, speakers recalled Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s journey from “shunya” (zero) to “shatak” (hundred), symbolising his rise from humble beginnings to becoming one of India’s most respected leaders. His commitment to democracy, national unity and development-oriented politics was highlighted as a guiding force for present and future generations.
The Vice President emphasised that Vajpayee’s ideals continue to inspire India’s march towards progress, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development, social harmony and India’s global standing. He noted that Vajpayee’s leadership during challenging times strengthened democratic institutions and promoted a culture of constructive political discourse.
The statue of Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai unveiled during the programme was described as a tribute to her exemplary administration and dedication to public welfare. Known for her contributions to social justice, temple restoration and people-centric governance, Devi Ahilyabai remains a revered figure in Indian history, particularly in Madhya Pradesh. The statue at Daily College campus is expected to serve as a source of inspiration for students and citizens alike.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Governor Mangubhai Patel also highlighted the relevance of remembering historical leaders who shaped India’s moral and cultural foundations. They stressed the importance of drawing lessons from their lives to address contemporary challenges and strengthen public service delivery.
