DEC 26 : In a significant move to address infrastructure damage caused by recent rains, MLA Nagrota, Smt. Devyani Rana, today met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, and submitted a detailed report highlighting the extent of damage across her constituency. The meeting focused on seeking the Centre’s timely intervention for restoration and upgradation of critical road and bridge infrastructure to ensure public safety and uninterrupted connectivity.

During the interaction, the MLA apprised the Union Minister of the widespread impact of heavy rainfall on roads, bridges and allied infrastructure in the Nagrota विधानसभा. She stressed that several areas have suffered damage that poses serious risks to commuters and local residents, particularly in rural and hilly pockets where connectivity is already challenging.

A key concern raised during the meeting was the Baba Paed Devta Bridge at Kattal Battal, which has been reported to be badly damaged due to incessant rains. The bridge serves as a vital link for multiple villages, facilitating daily movement of people, goods and emergency services. Its damaged condition has raised safety concerns and disrupted normal life in the surrounding areas.

MLA Devyani Rana urged the Union Minister to accord priority to the restoration and strengthening of the bridge, highlighting its socio-economic importance for the region. She emphasized that timely repair and reconstruction would not only restore connectivity but also prevent further deterioration during future monsoon spells.

The report submitted to Shri Nitin Gadkari also outlined the need for long-term, resilient infrastructure solutions. The MLA stressed that with changing weather patterns and increasing instances of extreme rainfall, infrastructure projects must be designed and executed with enhanced durability to withstand such challenges.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari gave a patient hearing to the issues raised and assured that the matter would be examined at the appropriate level. He reiterated the Centre’s commitment to improving road connectivity and infrastructure resilience, especially in regions vulnerable to climatic impacts.

The meeting reflects the proactive approach adopted by the Nagrota MLA in taking up constituency-specific issues at the national level. By engaging directly with the Union Ministry, she sought to ensure that essential projects receive timely attention and financial support, thereby safeguarding public interest.

Residents of Nagrota have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that swift action will be taken to restore damaged infrastructure before further complications arise. Improved roads and safe bridges are critical not only for daily commuting but also for access to healthcare, education and markets.

The engagement underscores the importance of coordination between elected representatives and the Union Government in addressing infrastructure challenges, particularly those arising from natural calamities. With timely intervention, the proposed measures are expected to strengthen connectivity, enhance safety and support sustainable development in the Nagrota constituency and surrounding areas
