In a significant step towards strengthening infrastructure and improving civic amenities in border regions, Minister Satish Sharma today laid the foundation stone for a ₹98.60 lakh Beautification and Infrastructure Development Project at Border Area Samwan in the Chhamb constituency. The Tourism Department is implementing the project as part of the government’s broader vision for inclusive and balanced regional development.
The initiative aims to upgrade basic infrastructure while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the area, thereby promoting local tourism and improving the overall quality of life for residents. Special emphasis has been laid on addressing the needs of border and rural areas, which often face infrastructural challenges due to their geographical and strategic location.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring that development reaches the last mile, particularly in border belts. He said that projects like these not only improve civic amenities but also create new opportunities for tourism-led economic growth, benefiting local communities through employment generation and increased livelihood options.
The beautification and infrastructure development project will focus on improving public spaces, enhancing visitor facilities, and creating a welcoming environment for tourists. By strengthening tourism infrastructure in Samwan, the initiative is expected to bring the region into the local tourism map, showcasing its natural and cultural potential.
Minister Sharma noted that the Tourism Department has been playing a key role in identifying untapped destinations and sustainably developing them. He emphasised that infrastructure development must be accompanied by environmental sensitivity and community participation to ensure long-term benefits.
Residents welcomed the project, expressing hope that improved infrastructure would lead to better connectivity, enhanced public facilities, and increased footfall of visitors. The project is also expected to instil a sense of pride among residents by transforming Samwan into a cleaner, better-equipped, and more attractive destination.
The Minister reiterated that the government remains focused on bridging the development gap between urban centres and border areas. He added that sustained investment in border regions is essential not only for socio-economic development but also for strengthening the sense of inclusion and national integration among border communities.
With the foundation stone laid, the project is set to move forward as part of ongoing efforts to promote tourism, strengthen infrastructure, and ensure equitable development across all regions of the constituency. The Samwan initiative stands as a testament to the government’s resolve to prioritise development in border and rural areas through targeted, people-centric projects.
