Jan 28: NEW DELHI: The Budget Session of Parliament begins today with the address of President Droupadi Murmu to a joint sitting of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, marking the formal start of one of the most significant legislative sessions of the year.

The session will set the tone for the government’s economic and policy priorities in the coming year. Following the President’s address, the Economic Survey will be tabled in Parliament tomorrow. The survey provides a comprehensive review of the state of the Indian economy and offers insights into key challenges, achievements, and growth prospects.

The Union Budget for the year will be presented on Sunday, February 1. The Budget is expected to outline the government’s fiscal roadmap, policy initiatives, and expenditure priorities, with a focus on growth, employment, infrastructure development, and welfare measures.

The Budget Session will be held in two phases. The first phase will run from today until the 13th of next month, during which key discussions on the President’s address, the Economic Survey, and the Budget are scheduled to take place. The second phase of the session will be held from March 9 to April 2, allowing Parliament to take up detailed debates on budgetary proposals, demands for grants, and other important legislative business.

In total, there will be 30 sittings during the Budget Session. Apart from financial matters, several important bills and policy issues are expected to be taken up for discussion, making the session crucial for legislative and governance outcomes.

The Budget Session is considered a cornerstone of parliamentary functioning, as it provides a platform for the government to present its vision and for lawmakers to debate national priorities. The proceedings over the coming weeks are expected to draw keen attention from policymakers, economists, industry stakeholders, and citizens alike.
