March 13, 2026: Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar on Wednesday reviewed the progress of key highway infrastructure projects being executed across the Jammu Division by national agencies.
The review meeting focused on projects being implemented by the National Highways Authority of India, National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, and the Border Roads Organisation.
Deputy Commissioners from across the division participated in the meeting both physically and through virtual mode. Senior officials including the Director of Geology and Mining Jammu, Regional Officer of NHAI, Chief Engineer PWD Jammu, Chief Engineers of Project Beacon and Project Sampark, Executive Director NHIDCL, and Project Directors from Udhampur, Jammu and Ramban were also present.
Review of Major National Highway Projects
During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner took stock of progress on several important highway projects, including the Lakhanpur-Srinagar National Highway, which forms part of National Highway 44. The highway serves as the primary road link connecting Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country.
Other major projects reviewed included the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, Jammu Ring Road, and the Chenani-Patnitop-Nashri Highway.
The Divisional Commissioner also assessed the progress of NHIDCL projects such as the Chenani-Sudhmahadev Road, Goha-Khellani Road, Khellani-Khanabal Road, and the Jammu-Akhnoor Highway.
Directions to Remove Bottlenecks
While reviewing the project-wise progress and related issues, the Divisional Commissioner directed officials to resolve bottlenecks that might slow down the pace of work.
He instructed Deputy Commissioners to expedite the resolution of administrative or procedural issues affecting the timely completion of important highway projects.
BRO Projects Also Reviewed
The meeting also reviewed progress on road works being executed by the Border Roads Organisation under Project Sampark, including the Jammu-Poonch National Highway and the Budhal-Mahore-Gul Road.
The Divisional Commissioner directed the concerned Deputy Commissioners to hold weekly reviews to monitor the progress of these projects and ensure that the work continues at the required pace.
Focus on Land Compensation and Clearances
Special emphasis was placed on expediting land compensation cases and obtaining pending forest clearances to avoid delays in project execution. Officials were instructed to coordinate closely with concerned departments to ensure smooth progress of the highway development works.
The review meeting concluded with directions to all departments and district administrations to work in close coordination with executing agencies so that the strategic and economically important highway projects in Jammu Division are completed within stipulated timelines.
