30 April: In a significant development for international travel, major Indian carriers including Air India, IndiGo, and Air India Express are set to resume flight operations to Doha from May 1, following a temporary suspension caused by regional tensions in West Asia.
The flights will operate to Hamad International Airport, reconnecting Doha with several major Indian cities and restoring a key international air corridor.
The resumption comes after nearly two months of disruption triggered by escalating conflict involving the United States and Iran, which led to widespread airspace closures and flight cancellations across the Middle East.
Officials said the restart of operations has been made possible due to a fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran, which has created a limited window of stability for aviation services to gradually resume.
According to the Embassy of India in Doha, the move is part of a coordinated effort involving global aviation authorities to stabilise air travel in the region. However, it cautioned that flight schedules remain subject to change, depending on evolving security conditions.
Passengers have been advised to stay in close contact with their respective airlines for real-time updates on flight timings, bookings, and terminal information, as operations may still face adjustments.
The resumption is expected to benefit thousands of travellers, including Indian expatriates, business travellers, and tourists who rely heavily on the Doha route as a major transit hub. The reopening of this corridor is also likely to ease pressure on alternative routes that were used during the disruption.
Industry experts note that while the restart of flights signals a positive step toward normalisation, the situation in the region remains sensitive. Airlines are continuing to monitor developments closely and may alter operations if security risks escalate.
Earlier, the conflict had severely impacted global aviation, forcing airlines to suspend services, reroute flights, and deal with rising operational costs. The gradual reopening of airspace is now helping restore connectivity, though full normalcy may take time.
The return of Indian airlines to Doha marks an important milestone in rebuilding international travel links, even as geopolitical uncertainties continue to cast a shadow over the region.
