World Athletics Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at Government High School Degwar Maldiyana in Poonch through a series of sports and athletic activities organised by the Education Department in collaboration with the Youth Services and Sports Department.
The programme witnessed active participation from students who took part in different athletic events aimed at promoting physical fitness, healthy competition, and greater involvement of youth in sports activities.
Teachers and officials encouraged students to adopt active lifestyles and develop interest in sports alongside academics. The event was organised to spread awareness about the importance of athletics in overall personality development and student well-being.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohd Altaf highlighted the role of sports in shaping students’ character and confidence. He said athletics and other sporting activities help inculcate discipline, teamwork, leadership qualities, and self-belief among young learners.
Participants displayed enthusiasm throughout the programme, making the event both competitive and engaging. Organisers stated that such initiatives motivate students to participate in extracurricular activities and contribute towards their holistic development.
The celebration concluded with appreciation for the students’ participation and a renewed emphasis on promoting sports culture in educational institutions across the region.
