New Delhi, September 11: The BRICS Bharat Innovates (BBI) Exposition is being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 11 and 12, showcasing India’s growing deep-tech capabilities as part of the country’s BRICS Chairship 2026.
Organised by the Ministry of Education in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, the exposition is being held ahead of and alongside the 18th BRICS Summit, scheduled for September 12 and 13.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi and heads of BRICS delegations are expected to visit the exposition during the two-day event.
37 Indian Deep-Tech Innovators Take Centre Stage
The exposition features 37 Indian deep-tech startups and ventures, selected from an original cohort of 120 startups and ventures that participated in the first Bharat Innovates 2026 exposition in Nice, France.
The New Delhi event is aligned with the theme of India’s BRICS Chairship: “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
The participating ventures represent India’s expanding higher education and innovation ecosystem and provide a platform for showcasing technologies to international policymakers, investors, business leaders and institutions.
Connecting Indian Innovation With Global Markets
Bharat Innovates is a national programme of the Ministry of Education designed to strengthen connections between India’s innovation ecosystem and global stakeholders.
The programme brings together startups, higher education institutions, laboratories and research parks with corporates, investors, incubators, universities, research institutions, governments and overseas alumni.
The BRICS exposition provides participating innovators with opportunities to engage directly with potential international partners and explore commercial opportunities.
The event is being held alongside the BRICS Business Forum on September 11, enabling startups to interact with CEOs, investors, business leaders and industry representatives from BRICS member countries.
These interactions are expected to facilitate B2B engagements, technology partnerships, investment discussions, business linkages and international market access.
Supporting India’s BRICS Innovation Agenda
The exposition also supports one of the key priorities under India’s BRICS Education Track — “Enhancing Research, Innovation and Start-up Ecosystems.”
The Education Track is among the five priority areas identified under India’s BRICS Chairship for 2026.
The other areas include strengthening early childhood care and education and foundational literacy and numeracy, skill development and technical and vocational education and training, mutual recognition of qualifications, and capacity building for academic leadership and institutional development.
International Visibility for Indian Startups
The BBI Exposition is designed to provide Indian deep-tech innovators with greater international visibility.
Participating startups have access to BRICS business leaders, investors and senior delegates, along with opportunities for structured matchmaking facilitated in coordination with industry bodies including FICCI, CII and ASSOCHAM.
The platform is expected to help innovators explore international partnerships, funding opportunities and avenues for expanding their technologies into global markets.
The participation of senior BRICS delegates also provides an opportunity to showcase India’s innovation capabilities at a major diplomatic and economic gathering.
Second Major Bharat Innovates Exposition of 2026
The New Delhi exposition is the second major Bharat Innovates event of 2026, following the inaugural edition held in Nice, France, from June 14 to 16.
The maiden Bharat Innovates edition was organised under the India-France Year of Innovation 2026 and was jointly inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The three-day event showcased 120 Indian deep-tech startups and ventures across 13 thematic areas, along with 15 participating institutions, including IITs, IISc, BIRAC and iDEX.
The Nice edition attracted more than 2,000 participants from 29 countries and resulted in over 30 collaboration MoUs and partnerships.
Indian startups and ventures participating in the event also secured funding commitments of US$254.5 million, following around 1,350 B2B meetings.
BRICS Education Cooperation Gains Momentum
The BBI Exposition builds on India’s broader engagement with the BRICS Education Track during its 2026 Chairship.
The Ministry of Education hosted the 13th BRICS Education Ministers’ Meeting on August 7 and the 3rd BRICS Senior Officials’ Meeting on Education on August 5 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
The Education Ministers’ Meeting concluded with the adoption of the 13th BRICS Education Ministers’ Declaration, setting out areas for cooperation in education, skills, research and innovation.
The declaration identified five priority areas, including early childhood care and education, foundational literacy and numeracy, skill development and TVET, research and startup ecosystems, mutual recognition of qualifications, and capacity building for academic leadership.
India Positions Deep-Tech Innovation as BRICS Priority
With 37 Indian deep-tech ventures participating, the Bharat Innovates Exposition provides a platform for connecting India’s research and startup ecosystem with international markets and institutions.
The event combines technology showcasing with business networking and diplomatic engagement, reflecting India’s emphasis on using innovation and entrepreneurship to support resilient and sustainable growth.
As BRICS leaders, policymakers, investors and business representatives gather in New Delhi, the exposition places Indian deep-tech innovation at the centre of India’s broader efforts to strengthen international cooperation in research, technology and startups.
