NEW DELHI, October 26: India is hosting the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi on October 26 and 27, bringing together parliamentary leaders and delegations from BRICS member and partner countries to discuss strengthening legislative cooperation and addressing shared global challenges.

The two-day forum is being held under the theme “Fostering Parliaments for People-Centric Development.” The programme aims to promote dialogue among legislatures, strengthen democratic institutions and encourage cooperation on issues affecting citizens across participating countries. <Link url=”https://newsonair.gov.in/12th-brics-parliamentary-forum-to-begin-in-new-delhi-tomorrow-2/” title=”Source: Akashvani News”/>

The event is being hosted by the Parliament of India at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who is chairing the forum, is presiding over the proceedings and holding discussions with visiting parliamentary leaders.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to participate in the programme and meet heads of visiting delegations, according to the official announcement.

Four Key Areas on the Forum’s Agenda

The forum’s deliberations are centred on four broad themes: resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.

The discussions are expected to examine how parliaments can strengthen institutions, encourage responsible and human-centred use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies, promote more representative global governance, and support sustainable and inclusive development.

These themes reflect the role of legislative institutions in responding to changing social, economic and technological priorities while maintaining public accountability.

Parliamentary Diplomacy and International Cooperation

The meeting also provides an opportunity for parliamentary representatives from BRICS member and partner countries to exchange experiences and discuss common concerns through bilateral and multilateral engagements.

A dedicated meeting of the chairpersons of parliamentary committees on international affairs is scheduled to focus on parliamentary diplomacy, capacity-building and the sharing of legislative best practices.

The forum is also intended to strengthen institutional relationships between participating legislatures and encourage consensus-based approaches to international challenges.

India’s hosting of the forum comes as BRICS continues to expand parliamentary engagement alongside broader cooperation among member and partner countries. The proceedings are expected to conclude on October 27 with a joint statement reflecting the outcomes of the discussions. <Link url=”https://www.pib.gov.in/PressReleseDetailm.aspx?PRID=2326629&lang=1&reg=3” title=”Official announcement from the Lok Sabha Secretariat via PIB”/>.

The 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum is expected to provide a platform for participating countries to exchange ideas, strengthen parliamentary ties and explore coordinated approaches to people-centric development and global governance.
