KATHUA, FEBRUARY 25: Chairman, District Development Council, Kathua Col Mahan Singh (Retd) on Saturday inaugurated a Disability cum Cancer Screening camp here at Trauma Hospital, Mahanpur of Basohli Sub Division.
A team of Doctors and paramedics examined the people who turned up to the hospital in large numbers for check up and assessment of percentage of medical disabilities. The camp was held under the overall supervision of Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Rakesh Mangotra.
On the occasion, the Cancer screening camp was also held in collaboration with NGO Laajwanti Trust for generating awareness and early detection of symptoms of the deadly disease.
A total of 172 disability cases were inspected by team of Doctors of which 132 people were given disability certificates and other 40 others were referred to Kathua district hospital for more tests.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC Chairman lauded the Health Department and NGO Laajwanti Trust (Shankus Medicity Cancer Hospitals) for organising the camp for the people of hilly block Mahanpur. He said more such camps shall be organised in rural areas to facilitate ruralites who otherwise have to cover long distances to avail the facilities. He appealed to people to stop alcohol consumption, give up tobacco and sedentary lifestyle which are the largest contributors in developing Cancer disease.
