DEC 8: The Kashmir Division today observed Armed Forces Flag Day with solemn respect and patriotic fervour, as Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, paid homage to the martyrs and honoured the men in uniform at Sainik Bhawan, Srinagar. The ceremony underscored the region’s deep gratitude toward soldiers who have dedicated their lives to safeguarding the nation.

During the event, the Divisional Commissioner interacted with veterans, Ex-Servicemen, War Widows, and their families, appreciating their sacrifices and reassuring them of the administration’s unwavering commitment to their welfare. He emphasized that Armed Forces Flag Day is not merely symbolic but a reminder of collective responsibility to support those who have served the nation with courage and dignity.

Garg highlighted the significance of continuing and strengthening welfare initiatives for veterans, especially in areas of healthcare, pensions, housing, and education for dependents. He reiterated that the administration is fully committed to ensuring that Ex-Servicemen and their families receive timely support and access to all government schemes designed for their benefit.

Officials from the Rajya Sainik Board and Sainik Welfare Department briefed the Divisional Commissioner on ongoing welfare programmes, including assistance for disabled soldiers, rehabilitation measures, and financial aid for families of martyrs. They also shared updates on awareness campaigns encouraging citizens to contribute to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund, which plays a vital role in supporting the welfare of soldiers and their families.

In his address, Garg called for greater public involvement in veteran welfare efforts, stressing that community participation strengthens the bridge between civilians and soldiers. He urged educational institutions, business establishments, and civil society groups to actively contribute to the welfare fund and organise programmes that honour the nation’s heroes.

The Divisional Commissioner also interacted individually with several veterans to understand their grievances and concerns. Many expressed satisfaction with the administration’s support and welcomed the assurance of sustained engagement to address challenges relating to healthcare access, pensions, and social security.

Armed Forces Flag Day, observed annually on December 7, is a national occasion dedicated to honouring the bravery, service, and sacrifices of India’s Armed Forces. It also serves as an important platform to highlight the needs of Ex-Servicemen and War Widows, encouraging citizens to contribute to their welfare.

The observance at Sainik Bhawan today reflected not only remembrance but a renewed commitment to ensuring dignified and comprehensive support for veterans across Jammu and Kashmir. The administration reaffirmed that the sacrifices of soldiers and their families will always remain central to the region’s development priorities.

As the nation salutes its defenders, the Divisional Commissioner’s message of respect, gratitude, and administrative support echoed strongly across the event—making this Armed Forces Flag Day a day of honour and renewed responsibility toward those who safeguard India’s sovereignty.
