OCT 25:Chief Secretary Shri Atal Dulloo chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan’, an intensive awareness and outreach initiative aimed at eradicating drug abuse across the Union Territory.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of grassroots-level engagement in the fight against substance abuse. He called for active participation from Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), educational institutions, and community organizations to create a strong, people-driven movement that promotes awareness, prevention, and rehabilitation.
Highlighting the achievements under the campaign, Shri Dulloo appreciated the extensive efforts of the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), which has conducted over 7,000 awareness programmes, reaching out to more than 3.5 lakh individuals across districts. These initiatives—ranging from rallies, workshops, and seminars to cultural events—have played a pivotal role in sensitizing communities about the harmful effects of drug addiction.
On the occasion, the Chief Secretary released the “J&K Nasha Mukt Abhiyan Compendium,” which documents the consolidated efforts, success stories, and best practices implemented under the campaign. He commended all departments, NGOs, and volunteers for their collective contribution in steering Jammu and Kashmir toward a drug-free, healthy, and empowered society.
Shri Dulloo reiterated the government’s commitment to adopt a multi-dimensional approach—combining awareness, rehabilitation, and law enforcement—to address the growing challenge of substance abuse. He stressed the need to integrate counselling, youth engagement, and school-based sensitization as core components of the Abhiyan to safeguard the younger generation from addiction.
The meeting underscored that sustained coordination among government departments, civil society, and local communities is vital to achieve the long-term vision of a “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir”—a UT free from the menace of drugs and driven by the power of awareness and collective responsibility.
