AUG 29: Amid the ongoing spell of incessant rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir, which has led to flooding in several areas, the Chief Minister chaired a high-level meeting from the Civil Secretariat in Jammu to review the ground situation. The continuous rise in water levels, coupled with damage to infrastructure, agricultural land, and property, has created widespread concern among residents.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed officials and concerned departments to remain on high alert and ensure that all preventive and relief measures are taken in a timely manner. He emphasized the need for swift evacuation of vulnerable populations, efficient distribution of relief materials, and the establishment of temporary shelters for those displaced by floods.
The Chief Minister also underscored the importance of restoring essential services, including power supply, water facilities, and road connectivity, in flood-hit areas at the earliest. He instructed that rehabilitation plans be prepared simultaneously so that affected families receive immediate support for rebuilding their lives. Constant and transparent communication with the public was stressed to ensure people are informed about safety advisories, relief measures, and emergency helplines.
The meeting was attended by all Ministers of the Council, Advisor to the Chief Minister, MLAs from affected constituencies, and senior officers of the administration. Officials were directed to work in close coordination with the disaster management authority, police, and local administration to ensure effective monitoring and response.
Appreciating the efforts of rescue and relief teams working on the ground despite challenging conditions, the Chief Minister urged for additional manpower and resources to be mobilized wherever required. He reiterated that safeguarding lives remains the top priority, followed by rehabilitation and long-term measures to minimize risks of such calamities in future.
The government also assured affected communities that comprehensive relief packages and compensation measures will be extended to those who have suffered loss of life, livestock, or property.
The Chief Minister’s proactive engagement through this high-level meeting has brought reassurance to the public, reinforcing the government’s commitment to protecting lives and restoring normalcy at the earliest.
