OCT 16:Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the Civil Secretariat to assess the progress of modernization initiatives undertaken by the Mining Department of Jammu and Kashmir. The review focused on leveraging technology for transparency, efficiency, and sustainable mining practices in the Union Territory.
The Chief Minister lauded the successful implementation of the Integrated Mining Surveillance System (IMSS), which has revolutionized monitoring through real-time tracking, drone surveillance, and data analytics. He noted that IMSS has significantly enhanced transparency, helping to detect and prevent illegal mining activities across various districts.
Emphasizing a technology-first approach, Omar Abdullah directed officials to integrate anti-collusion mechanisms and AI-based tracking systems to ensure fair mineral auctions and minimize human interference. He highlighted the need for a time-bound exploration roadmap, enabling scientific assessment and optimal utilization of mineral resources while maintaining ecological balance.
The Chief Minister underscored the importance of aligning the department’s operations with the Digital India mission, ensuring seamless data sharing, online approvals, and user-friendly platforms for citizens and stakeholders. He also instructed the department to collaborate with environmental agencies to implement sustainable mining reforms that safeguard local ecosystems and communities.
Omar Abdullah commended the Mining Department’s efforts to digitize record-keeping, automate royalty collection, and introduce geo-fencing in mineral-bearing zones. He reiterated that transparency, accountability, and sustainability must remain the core principles guiding future mining operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior officials from the Departments of Geology & Mining, Environment, IT, and Finance attended the meeting and presented updates on digital integration, field monitoring, and policy reforms.
The Chief Minister concluded by reaffirming his government’s commitment to making Jammu and Kashmir a model of responsible, technology-enabled mining governance, ensuring economic growth without compromising environmental integrity.
