NOV 30:Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, carried out a comprehensive review of Srinagar’s traffic decongestion strategy and undertook an extensive tour across the city to evaluate the situation on the ground. The visit was aimed at identifying key areas where traffic flow remains restricted and assessing the progress of ongoing mobility-related interventions.

During the review, Garg emphasized the need for strict regulation of public transport to ensure smoother movement across the capital city. He called for strict adherence to designated routes, proper boarding and deboarding practices, and improved management of passenger vehicles. According to him, streamlining public transport operations is critical to reducing daily congestion and enhancing overall urban mobility.

A major point of focus was the timely completion of traffic lights and the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS), which are expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring synchronized signal operations and real-time traffic monitoring. Garg directed concerned departments to accelerate the remaining work and ensure all components are fully functional at the earliest.

The Divisional Commissioner also highlighted the importance of removing bottlenecks across major intersections. He instructed officials to identify obstructions, encroachments, and design-related gaps that hinder smooth flow and initiate corrective measures immediately. The creation of designated bus stops was stressed as a practical step to prevent roadside chaos and ensure organized movement of vehicles.

In addition to these measures, Garg called for the development of adequate parking spaces to reduce roadside parking, which often leads to unnecessary traffic snarls. He instructed for improvements in road conditions, expansion where feasible, and enhancement of key junctions to support uninterrupted movement.

His on-ground assessment covered several crucial points across the city, where he interacted with officials and examined ongoing works. Garg reiterated the administration’s commitment to improving Srinagar’s traffic management system through coordinated planning, technological intervention, and sustained enforcement. The efforts aim to create a more efficient, safe, and citizen-friendly mobility experience for residents and commuters in the summer capital.
