March 08: To mark International Women’s Day, the District Legal Services Authority Udhampur organised a series of legal awareness programmes across the district, focusing on women’s rights and legal protection against violence.
The awareness drives were conducted under the guidance of Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman DLSA Udhampur Kalpana Revo and Sub-Judge and Secretary DLSA Udhampur Sumati Sharma.
Awareness Programme at Bhaskar Degree College
The first programme was organised in collaboration with Bhaskar Degree College Udhampur with the aim of sensitising students and the general public about women’s rights and welfare schemes meant for their protection and empowerment.
Secretary DLSA Udhampur delivered the welcome address and highlighted the achievements of women across various sectors. Advocate Sanjeet Bavouria served as the resource person and elaborated on the significance of International Women’s Day.
He informed participants about legal rights available to women and various government welfare schemes designed for their safety and empowerment. The programme witnessed active participation from students, faculty members and attendees.
College Principal Dr Udhey Bhanu, along with teaching staff and students, attended the event and appreciated the initiative. Participants also engaged in interactive discussions on challenges faced by women in society.
Collaboration with One Stop Centre
Another awareness session was conducted in collaboration with the One Stop Centre Udhampur. The session focused on informing participants about legal remedies available to women facing violence and the range of support services offered to women in distress.
Officials explained how affected women can access counselling, legal assistance and emergency support through the centre.
Programme at District Jail Udhampur
Extending outreach efforts, DLSA Udhampur also organised a legal awareness programme at District Jail Udhampur in collaboration with the Adhivakta Parishad Udhampur.
Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel Advocate Pawan Gupta acted as the resource person and addressed the inmates. He emphasised the importance of creating a safe and respectful environment for women and encouraged participants to oppose discrimination and violence.
He also informed inmates about free legal aid services provided by the Legal Services Authority to eligible sections of society.
Public Prosecutors Shalini Gupta and Divya Rajput, deputed by DLSA Udhampur, attended the programmes and assisted in spreading legal awareness.
Recognition for Legal Awareness Contribution
During the events, Paralegal Volunteer Rajni Sharma was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for her dedicated services and contribution to legal awareness activities conducted at the One Stop Centre.
Awareness Drives Across Tehsils
Similar programmes were organised by the Tehsil Legal Services Committee Ramnagar and Tehsil Legal Services Committee Chenani to mark International Women’s Day. These initiatives aimed to extend legal awareness to rural areas and ensure that women are informed about their rights and available legal remedies.
The series of programmes reflected a strong commitment by the legal services institutions to empower women through awareness, legal literacy and accessible support mechanisms.
