Walkathon at Atal Setu Bridge Basohli Promotes Women Empowerment During Women’s Week

Kathua, March 08: As part of the ongoing Women’s Week celebrations, a vibrant walkathon was organised today at the iconic Atal Setu Bridge Basohli to promote women empowerment, fitness and active participation of women and girls in physical activities.

The event was conducted under the Women’s Week programme being organised by the District Administration Kathua from March 02 to March 08.

Flagged Off by ADC Basohli

The walkathon was flagged off by Additional Deputy Commissioner Basohli Pankaj Bagotra, who appreciated the enthusiastic participation of women, students and civil society members.

Addressing the participants, he emphasised that such initiatives encourage physical fitness while reinforcing the message of gender equality and women empowerment in society. He highlighted that community participation plays a vital role in strengthening awareness campaigns related to women’s welfare.

Massive Participation from Students and Women

The event witnessed impressive participation from women, girl students and representatives of various non-governmental organisations, reflecting strong public support for the Women’s Week initiative.

As many as 90 girl students from five schools of Zone Basohli took part in the walkathon, accompanied by a large number of local women. Their energetic presence added vibrancy and purpose to the awareness drive.

Route Spreading Awareness on Women’s Health

The walkathon commenced from the Jammu and Kashmir side of the Atal Setu Bridge and proceeded across the bridge towards Punjab before moving further towards Basohli town.

Participants carried forward messages highlighting the importance of women’s health, empowerment and active involvement in community development. The march symbolised unity, confidence and the growing role of women in public life.

Officials and Organisers Present

Several senior officers and officials were present on the occasion, including Tehsildar Basohli Sagar Vishav Karma, BDO Basohli Rajesh Kumar, Principal Government Model Higher Secondary School Basohli Brij Bhushan Sharma and ZPEO Basohli Tara Singh.

The programme was organised under the supervision of CDPO Basohli Rakesh Kumar, who served as the Nodal Officer for the event. Staff members and volunteers also extended full support to ensure smooth conduct of the programme.

Part of District-Wide Women’s Week Activities

The walkathon formed part of a broader series of activities being organised across Kathua district to mark Women’s Week celebrations. These initiatives aim to generate awareness about women empowerment, health, nutrition and leadership while encouraging women to participate actively in all spheres of life.

The event successfully conveyed the message that women’s empowerment and physical well-being are essential pillars of a progressive and inclusive society.
