JULY 19: In a major push toward digital transformation and innovation in public sector enterprises, the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) under the Ministry of Finance hosted a national-level Workshop on Industry 4.0 in New Delhi. The workshop focused on the sectoral application of emerging technologies and strategies for integrating Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) enablers into the operations of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs).
The event was inaugurated by Shri K. Moses Chalai, Secretary, DPE, who emphasized the need for a “Whole-of-CPSEs” approach, inspired by the “Whole-of-Government” framework. He urged CPSEs to collaborate on scaling up Industry 4.0 technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Twins, 3D Printing, and 5G-enabled smart infrastructure. He noted that these technologies are likely to become part of the CPSE MoU assessment framework, making early adoption critical to maintaining global competitiveness.
The workshop brought together CMDs and Directors from major CPSEs like NTPC, GAIL, IRCTC, NHPC, CONCOR, RITES, AAI, WAPCOS, Powergrid, HSCC, and BSNL, who actively engaged in sessions on digital innovation, capacity building, and strategic roadmapping.
Expert presentations added depth to the workshop.
-
Mr. A. Anand shared insights into 3D printing and digital design applications drawn from India’s first 5G labs.
-
Dr. Prabhjot Singh Sugga spoke about Digital Twin platforms for infrastructure and disaster management.
-
Ms. Vidushi Chaturvedi demonstrated how AI and Machine Learning can be applied for predictive analytics and operational efficiency.
CPSEs showcased successful use cases of 4IR technologies:
-
AI-driven maintenance,
-
3D-printed supply chains, and
-
digital simulation models for smart operations.
The DPE also presented a Concept Paper and Adoption Potential Matrix, identifying key sectors such as Oil & Gas, Railways, Infrastructure, Health, and Handlooms for immediate transformation.
The DPE reaffirmed its commitment to driving technological adoption across CPSEs and announced that this was the first of a series of regional workshops to be held across India, set to conclude by August 2025.
