AUG 26: Jammu and Kashmir Jal Shakti Minister Javed Raana laid the foundation stone for the Water Supply Scheme under AMRUT 2.0 in Uri town, marking a significant step toward achieving 100% water coverage in the region.
Calling the project a milestone in providing clean and reliable drinking water to every household, the Minister reaffirmed the Omar Abdullah–led government’s commitment to bridging developmental gaps in remote and underserved areas.
The scheme entails the construction of a 0.55 MGD Rapid Sand Filtration Plant (RSFP) at Uri and a 0.25 MGD RSFP at Lagama. In addition, it includes setting up a new water reservoir and augmenting the existing distribution network to meet both current and future requirements of the town.
The Minister noted that the initiative reflects the government’s broader mission of ensuring equitable access to essential services across all regions of Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that strengthening basic infrastructure like water supply is vital to improving quality of life and promoting sustainable development in hilly and border areas.
The project is expected to not only meet the immediate demand for safe drinking water but also create a reliable system capable of catering to Uri’s growing population in the coming years.
