Government Appoints Shri Ramann as PFRDA Chief for Five-Year Term

JUNE 20: Shri Sivasubramanian Ramann officially assumed charge as the Chairperson of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) on 20th June 2025. His appointment was notified by the Government of India on 8th April 2025, with a fixed tenure of five years from the date of assuming office, or until he reaches the age of 65 years, or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.

An accomplished civil servant from the 1991 batch of the Indian Audit & Accounts Service (IA&AS), Shri Ramann brings with him a distinguished record of public service and leadership across multiple institutions. Prior to joining PFRDA, he served as the Deputy Comptroller & Auditor General and Chief Technology Officer in the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.

Shri Ramann has previously held prominent leadership roles including Chairman and Managing Director of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), Managing Director and CEO of National E-Governance Services Ltd. (NeSL), and Principal Accountant General of Jharkhand. He also contributed significantly to capital markets regulation during his tenure at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), where he served as Chief General Manager and later as Executive Director between 2006 and 2013.

Academically, Shri Ramann is well-qualified, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and an MBA from the University of Delhi. He further advanced his expertise with an M.Sc. in Financial Regulation from the London School of Economics, an LLB, and a Chief Digital Officer certification from the Indian School of Business. Additionally, he is a Certified Internal Auditor from the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), Florida, and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Securities Law.

His comprehensive background in financial regulation, public finance, technology, and governance uniquely positions him to lead PFRDA at a crucial juncture. Under his leadership, the Authority is expected to further strengthen India’s pension infrastructure and promote inclusive retirement security for all segments of the population.

Shri Ramann’s appointment is seen as a significant step toward aligning regulatory capabilities with the evolving demands of India’s pension ecosystem.
