Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir:
A high-level review meeting on preparations for Census 2027 was held at the office of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrants) on Canal Road in Jammu, focusing on ensuring comprehensive coverage of the migrant population.
The meeting was attended by Amit Sharma, Director Census for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and Arvind Karwani, along with senior officials, Tehsildars, and camp commanders. Representatives from migrant camps also participated through virtual mode.
Discussions centred on strategies to ensure that all members of the migrant community are accurately included in the upcoming census exercise. Officials stressed the importance of awareness campaigns to inform people about Census 2027, also referred to as Mardumshumari, and encourage active participation.
Authorities highlighted that the upcoming census will be conducted using a fully digital and paperless system, aimed at improving efficiency, accuracy, and transparency. The use of technology is expected to minimise errors and ensure secure handling of data.
Officials also reviewed on-ground arrangements and coordination mechanisms required for smooth implementation. Special focus was placed on reaching migrant populations residing in camps and other locations to ensure no one is left out of the enumeration process.
Participants underscored the need for seamless coordination between departments and field-level functionaries to achieve complete and reliable data collection.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthen awareness efforts and ensure that Census 2027 is conducted in a transparent, inclusive, and technologically advanced manner.
