Srinagar, September 21, 2026: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has created 899 new posts across various departments since October 16, 2024, while the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) have finalised 7,580 selections during the same period.
The figures were provided by the government in the Legislative Assembly on Monday in response to a question raised by Handwara MLA Sajad Gani Lone.
Health Department Accounts for Highest Number of New Posts
According to the government data, the Health and Medical Education Department accounts for the largest share of newly created positions, with 485 posts.
The Housing and Urban Development Department follows with 266 posts, while Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs has created 82 posts.
Other departments included in the figures are:
- Jal Shakti: 43 posts
- Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR): 16 posts
- Cooperatives: 3 posts
- Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs: 2 posts
- ARI & Trainings: 1 post
- Transport: 1 post
Together, these figures account for the 899 new positions created across departments during the period.
JKPSC and JKSSB Finalise 7,580 Selections
The government also informed the House that 7,580 selections had been finalised by the two major recruitment agencies since October 2024.
Of these, JKPSC finalised 1,768 selections, while JKSSB finalised 5,812 selections.
The figures cover selections processed by the two agencies during the period and are separate from the number of newly created government posts.
14,270 Vacancies Referred for Recruitment
The government response further stated that a total of 14,270 vacancies were referred to JKPSC and JKSSB for recruitment during the period.
For JKPSC, 1,852 vacancies were referred. The category-wise breakup included 855 Open Merit, 198 Scheduled Caste, 166 ST-1, 156 ST-2, 114 OBC, 65 ALC/IB, 149 RBA, 139 EWS, four PSP and six ST backlog vacancies.
For JKSSB, the number of vacancies referred stood at 12,418. These included 5,173 Open Merit, 1,104 SC, 1,248 ST-1, 1,212 ST-2, 933 OBC, 495 ALC/IB, 1,174 RBA and 1,079 EWS vacancies.
Recruitment Data Comes Amid Employment Focus
The figures were presented during the ongoing Autumn Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, where employment and recruitment remain among the issues being raised by legislators.
The government data provides separate figures for new posts created, vacancies referred for recruitment and selections finalised, offering a snapshot of recruitment activity across Jammu and Kashmir since October 2024.
The details are expected to remain part of discussions in the Assembly as members examine employment, vacancies and recruitment processes across government departments.
