Feb 1: The Jammu & Kashmir Judicial Academy (JKJA) today organised a one-day orientation programme for newly appointed Civil Judges (ECT-17-2025) at the Jammu High Court complex, Janipur, marking an important step in preparing judicial officers for their professional responsibilities.
The orientation programme aimed to familiarise the newly inducted Civil Judges with contemporary judicial practices, technological advancements and emerging tools that are increasingly shaping the justice delivery system in India. The event underscored the judiciary’s commitment to efficiency, transparency and innovation.
A key highlight of the programme was an in-depth session on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and e-Court Induction, focusing on the digital transformation of courts. Participants were briefed on the functioning of e-Courts, case management systems, digital filing, virtual hearings and the use of technology to enhance judicial efficiency and access to justice.
Another significant session focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on the Judiciary. Experts discussed how AI-driven tools can assist judges in legal research, case analysis, document management and reducing pendency, while also emphasising ethical considerations and the importance of judicial discretion.
Speakers highlighted that while technology can act as a powerful enabler, the human element of empathy, fairness and constitutional values remains central to judicial decision-making. The judges were encouraged to adopt technology responsibly while upholding the core principles of justice.
The orientation programme provided an interactive platform for the newly appointed judges to engage with subject experts, clarify queries and gain insights into best practices in judicial administration. Officials noted that such programmes are vital for equipping judicial officers with the skills required to meet evolving challenges in the legal system.
The JK Judicial Academy reiterated its role in promoting continuous judicial education and capacity building, stating that regular training and orientation initiatives are crucial to strengthening the justice delivery mechanism in Jammu and Kashmir.
The event concluded with a reaffirmation of the judiciary’s commitment to embracing innovation while maintaining the highest standards of integrity, independence and professionalism.
