SEP 04: In view of the rising water levels in River Jhelum following continuous rainfall, Health Minister Sakeena Itoo along with Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, visited the Flood Control Room at Ram Munshibagh to take a firsthand review of the situation. The visit was aimed at assessing the current status of flood preparedness and ensuring that the administration remains fully geared to handle any eventuality.
During the review, both leaders examined the real-time data on Jhelum water levels and held detailed discussions with officials of the Flood Control Department regarding the preventive measures being implemented. They emphasized the need for timely dissemination of real-time alerts to the public, particularly in vulnerable and low-lying areas, so that precautionary measures can be taken without delay.
The Minister and the Advisor directed officers to maintain close coordination and synergy among all line departments, including police, disaster management, health services, and local administration, to ensure an integrated response to the evolving situation. They further instructed that embankments along the Jhelum and its tributaries must be kept under strict round-the-clock vigil to prevent any breach that could endanger lives and property.
Health Minister Sakeena Itoo stressed the readiness of medical teams and emergency health units, highlighting that hospitals have been alerted and necessary supplies of medicines and equipment have been secured to respond to any crisis. Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the people. He urged the administration to adopt a proactive approach in issuing advisories, carrying out preventive evacuations wherever required, and ensuring that all relief and rescue measures are implemented effectively.
The leaders assured the public that the government is closely monitoring the situation and every possible step is being taken to mitigate risks and minimize hardships. Their visit to the Flood Control Room has boosted the morale of field functionaries and reinforced public confidence that the administration is working with full preparedness to safeguard lives and property amidst the looming flood threat.
