OCT 17:Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha inaugurated the Veshaw Literary Festival at Kulgam, marking a grand celebration of literature, art, culture, and creativity in the heart of South Kashmir. The festival, named after the scenic Veshaw River, aims to revive the region’s deep-rooted literary traditions and provide a vibrant platform for emerging voices, especially youth and women writers, to express their ideas and imagination.
In his inaugural address, the Lieutenant Governor praised the efforts of the organizers for bringing together writers, poets, and artists from across Jammu and Kashmir to celebrate the power of words. He emphasized that literature plays a vital role in shaping human consciousness, bridging communities, and preserving cultural identity. The LG highlighted that Jammu and Kashmir has always been a cradle of spirituality and artistic expression, with literature serving as a reflection of its rich civilizational ethos.
Shri Sinha particularly commended the growing participation of young authors and women writers, noting that their creative energy is redefining the literary landscape of the Union Territory. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to nurturing talent through cultural festivals, youth engagement initiatives, and literary outreach programs.
The festival features book readings, poetry recitations, panel discussions, and storytelling sessions, bringing together noted authors, scholars, and literature enthusiasts. Special sessions were dedicated to contemporary Kashmiri and Dogri literature, regional folklore, and translation works that promote linguistic diversity and inclusivity.
