JUNE 15: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, visited the family of the late Syed Adil Hussain Shah at their native village in Haptnadh, Anantnag. During his visit, the Lieutenant Governor handed over a government job appointment letter to Adil’s wife, Mst. Gulnaz Akhter, as a compassionate measure following the tragic loss of her husband.
Syed Adil Hussain Shah was one of the 26 innocent civilians brutally killed in a terrorist attack at Pahalgam on April 22. His valiant efforts to shield tourists during the attack have been widely acknowledged and honored. LG Sinha paid homage to the late civilian and reassured the grieving family of ongoing government support to help them lead a life of dignity.
“The entire nation salutes the courage and selflessness of Adil. His sacrifice while protecting innocent lives in Pahalgam will never be forgotten. Offering a government job to his wife is a small token of our deep gratitude,” the Lieutenant Governor remarked.
The appointment of Mst. Gulnaz Akhter has been made under Clause-2A of the Jammu and Kashmir Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme, 2022. This provision empowers the Lieutenant Governor to appoint a dependent family member of a civilian victim of terrorism, law and order disturbances, or enemy action, in exceptional circumstances—even if the deceased was not a government employee.
Further, in this specific case, the LG exercised his discretionary authority to relax the minimum educational qualifications required for the job, taking into account the extraordinary circumstances surrounding Adil’s death. It was emphasized that the Fisheries Department played no role in the relaxation or the appointment process.
This compassionate decision reflects the administration’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices of innocent civilians who fall victim to terrorism. It also serves as a reassurance to affected families that the government stands firmly by them in times of profound loss.
The gesture symbolizes a broader message of solidarity, compassion, and justice for those who suffer due to acts of terror and violence.
