Minister Satish Sharma today addressed the 6th Direct Selling Conclave 2026 held in New Delhi, underscoring the importance of transparency, consumer trust and technology-driven regulatory mechanisms for the sustainable growth of India’s direct selling industry.
Speaking at the conclave, the Minister highlighted that the direct selling sector has emerged as a significant contributor to employment generation, entrepreneurship and inclusive economic growth, particularly by creating opportunities for women and youth across urban and rural areas. He stressed that sustained growth of the sector must be anchored in strong ethical practices and consumer-centric policies.
Emphasising transparency, Satish Sharma said that clear operational guidelines and fair business practices are essential to strengthen public confidence in the direct selling ecosystem. He noted that consumer trust is the foundation of long-term success and urged industry stakeholders to strictly adhere to regulatory norms while ensuring accountability at every level.
The Minister also highlighted the growing role of technology in governance and regulation, stating that digital tools can enhance monitoring, grievance redressal and compliance mechanisms. Technology-enabled systems, he said, will help distinguish legitimate direct selling enterprises from fraudulent practices, thereby safeguarding consumers and genuine entrepreneurs alike.
Addressing industry leaders and policymakers, Satish Sharma called for collaborative efforts between the government and the private sector to create a robust and future-ready regulatory framework. He said such collaboration is vital to ensure innovation, ease of doing business and protection of consumer rights move forward together.
The conclave witnessed participation from senior government officials, industry representatives, legal experts and direct selling professionals, who deliberated on policy reforms, best practices and emerging trends in the sector. Discussions also focused on leveraging digital platforms to improve transparency, training and outreach.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, the Minister assured that policy initiatives would continue to support the responsible growth of the direct selling sector while preventing misuse. He added that a balanced approach combining regulation, technology and stakeholder cooperation would enable the industry to realise its full potential.
