Sep 3: Minister for FCS&CA, Transport, Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma, today undertook a field inspection of the Tawi river embankments to assess the prevailing water level situation and review the district administration’s flood preparedness. The visit came amid heightened alert following continuous rainfall and swelling water bodies in Jammu.
During the inspection, the Minister directed officials to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of the Tawi river and maintain effective inter-departmental coordination. He stressed that timely and accurate dissemination of alerts to the public is vital for preventing panic and enabling families to take precautionary measures in advance.
Sharma instructed authorities to keep essential supplies pre-stocked at designated relief centres, including food grains, medicines, potable water, and fuel, to ensure that any potential evacuation is met with an immediate safety net. “Preparedness is the key to minimizing hardship during natural calamities. Relief centres must remain fully equipped and functional,” he said.
In a significant gesture of solidarity, the Minister announced a personal donation of two months’ salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He stated that this contribution reflects both the government’s and his own personal commitment to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people during this challenging time.
Reiterating the administration’s readiness, Sharma assured that all necessary manpower, logistics, and infrastructure are being mobilized to protect lives and property. He called upon citizens to remain vigilant, cooperate with officials, and rely on official advisories rather than unverified information.
By combining on-ground inspection, proactive directives, and financial support, Sharma emphasized that the government is committed not only to handling the immediate flood risk but also to instilling public confidence in its disaster management mechanisms.
