NOV 28: The Ministry of Defence has finalized two significant Letters of Offer and Acceptance (LOAs) with the United States Government to secure long-term sustainment support for the Indian Navy’s MH-60R multi-mission helicopters. Signed under the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme, the agreements together amount to approximately ₹7,995 crore and were formalized in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi on 28 November 2025.
The five-year sustainment package encompasses a comprehensive range of support measures designed to ensure the MH-60R fleet remains mission-ready and fully operational. The support includes supply of critical spares, product support, ground support equipment, training modules, and technical assistance. Provisions for repair, refurbishment, and replenishment of key components also form an essential part of the package.
A major highlight of the agreement is the establishment of Intermediate-level repair and Periodic Maintenance Inspection facilities within India. Creating such infrastructure domestically is expected to significantly strengthen long-term self-reliance, reduce dependency on external agencies, and align with the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The initiative is also expected to create new opportunities for Indian MSMEs and defence-related industries by opening avenues for indigenous components and service development.
The MH-60R helicopters—acquired from the US as part of India’s naval modernization—are known for their advanced all-weather and multi-role capabilities, including potent Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) features. With enhanced support infrastructure and improved logistics, the Navy will be better positioned to operate these helicopters from multiple bases as well as onboard vessels, ensuring greater operational availability and improved mission performance across all assigned roles.
