JULY 23: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah addressed a one-day conference on the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) held at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), emphasizing the need for a holistic and inclusive approach to education reform. He called for a grassroots-level implementation of NEP-2020 to ensure that it not only transforms the education system but also addresses the diverse needs of different regions.

Highlighting the policy’s transformative potential, Omar Abdullah stated that NEP-2020 must be locally adaptable and reflect the cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic realities of Jammu and Kashmir. “A policy is only as effective as its implementation on the ground. Our focus must be on making NEP-2020 a tool for real transformation that leaves no child behind,” he remarked.

The Chief Minister urged educators, administrators, and policymakers to work collaboratively in building an inclusive system where every child gets equal opportunities to learn and grow. He stressed the importance of filling existing gaps in subjects and faculty across educational institutions. “Teachers and educational leaders must be empowered with resources, training, and innovative teaching methods so they can nurture future-ready learners,” he added.

Omar Abdullah underlined the need for modernizing teaching practices while preserving the region’s unique heritage and values. He encouraged schools and colleges to focus on skill-based learning, creativity, and problem-solving approaches to prepare students for global challenges.

The conference saw the participation of education experts, policy planners, and stakeholders who discussed various aspects of NEP-2020, including early childhood education, teacher training, and technology integration. CM Abdullah also emphasized the role of community involvement in ensuring the success of the policy.

“Education is the foundation of progress, and we must ensure that no child is left without access to quality learning opportunities,” the Chief Minister said. He called for continuous feedback and a participatory approach in implementing NEP-2020 to make the system more inclusive and future-oriented.

The event concluded with a collective pledge from educators and officials to take actionable steps toward the effective execution of the policy, keeping local priorities and student well-being at the forefront.
