June 16: In a vibrant celebration of India’s rich traditional healing systems, the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa (NISR), Leh, today hosted a one-day “Samyoga” event with participation from experts across 10 Indian states. The event was a significant step towards strengthening the synergy between Sowa-Rigpa, Yoga, and Naturopathy, in alignment with India’s global wellness and integrative medicine vision.
The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest and distinguished dignitaries, followed by a Medicine Buddha prayer, marking the sacredness of traditional healing wisdom. Dr. Padma Gurmet, Director of NISR, extended a warm welcome to the attendees and offered insights into the institute’s initiatives for promoting Yoga through the Sowa-Rigpa system, an ancient Tibetan healing science with deep roots in Himalayan culture.
Dr. Raghavendra Rao, Director of the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), New Delhi, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of scientific collaboration and evidence-based integration of Indian wellness systems in public healthcare. He noted that cross-disciplinary platforms like Samyoga can set the tone for the future of preventive and holistic medicine in India.
Guest of Honour Ven Bhikkhu Sanghasena, a renowned spiritual leader and founder of Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre, Ladakh, shared his insights on how inner peace through mindfulness and traditional healing can contribute to global peace. Other key guests included Dr. Tashi Thinlas, Director of Health, UT Ladakh, and Dr. Satya Lakshmi, Director of the National Institute of Naturopathy, Pune. Both spoke about the evolving role of integrative medicine in India’s healthcare system and the importance of regional collaboration in preserving indigenous knowledge.
The Samyoga event at NISR Leh served as a meaningful confluence of ancient traditions, modern research, and public health policy. Experts shared best practices, case studies, and pathways to integrate Yoga, Sowa-Rigpa, and Naturopathy for a healthier society. The success of the event marks another milestone in India’s journey to position itself as a global wellness hub rooted in time-tested traditions.
