Jammu’s iconic Tawi River Front emerged as a major attraction during the 77th Republic Day celebrations, with tricolour facade lighting transforming the riverfront into a vibrant symbol of national pride and urban renewal. Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Commissioner Devansh IAS said the special illumination significantly enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the riverfront and added to the festive spirit across the city.
The tricolour lighting, unveiled as part of Republic Day celebrations, drew large crowds and received widespread appreciation from residents and visitors alike. The initiative highlighted the administration’s efforts to combine patriotic celebrations with urban beautification, making public spaces more engaging and citizen-friendly.
Building on this momentum, the JMC Commissioner announced that the first-ever Tawi Boating Festival will be organised on January 28 and 29 at the Tawi River Front. The festival aims to promote recreational activities, encourage family participation, and position the riverfront as a key leisure and tourism destination in Jammu.
According to officials, the boating festival will offer residents a unique opportunity to experience the Tawi River in a new and interactive way. Safety arrangements, crowd management measures, and necessary facilities are being put in place to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for visitors of all age groups.
Appealing to the public, the JMC Commissioner invited citizens to visit the riverfront with their families and take part in the festival, describing it as a “memorable experience” that blends recreation, civic pride, and community bonding. The event is expected to attract a large turnout, particularly youth and families, further energising the riverfront precinct.
The Tawi River Front has been emerging as a focal point of Jammu’s urban transformation, with ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, cleanliness, lighting, and public amenities. Officials noted that initiatives such as facade lighting and cultural or recreational festivals are part of a broader vision to revitalise public spaces and improve the quality of life for residents.
Urban planners and civic authorities believe that regular events at the riverfront will not only encourage healthy outdoor activities but also support local tourism and small businesses. The Tawi Boating Festival is being seen as a pilot initiative that could pave the way for more such attractions in the future.
With the tricolour illumination setting the tone and the boating festival adding a new dimension, the Tawi River Front is fast becoming a landmark that reflects Jammu’s evolving urban identity—rooted in national pride, inclusivity, and sustainable city development.
