Traffic Department Cracks Down on Repeat Rule Violators in Jammu, 26,000 Vehicle RCs Suspended

14 May: JAMMU: The Traffic Department has intensified its action against habitual traffic violators in Jammu, leading to the suspension of registration certificates (RCs) of nearly 26,000 vehicles for repeated violations and non-payment of challans.

According to officials, the crackdown follows directions linked to road safety enforcement and compliance measures aimed at reducing traffic violations across the district.

Jasmeet Singh said that a list of around 68,000 vehicles involved in multiple traffic violations was shared by the office of the IG Traffic with the Transport Department for necessary action.

Vehicle owners were initially issued notices and given time to clear pending fines and traffic challans. Authorities also extended the deadline to encourage compliance and provide an opportunity for violators to regularise their records.

However, officials stated that many vehicle owners failed to respond despite repeated notices and extensions. As a result, the registration certificates of approximately 26,000 vehicles were suspended.

The matter has also been reported to the Inspector General of Traffic for further monitoring and enforcement action.

Officials revealed that several vehicle owners were identified as habitual offenders, with some vehicles reportedly involved in more than 400 traffic violations. Authorities also found that nearly 389 vehicle owners had accumulated over 100 challans each.

The Traffic Department stated that the action aims to strengthen road discipline, improve public safety, and ensure stricter compliance with traffic regulations.

Authorities have urged vehicle owners to clear pending fines, follow traffic rules responsibly, and avoid repeated violations that could lead to legal and administrative action.

Road safety experts believe stricter enforcement and digital monitoring systems can help reduce reckless driving, overspeeding, signal violations, and other offences contributing to road accidents.

Officials also emphasised the importance of public cooperation in maintaining traffic discipline and creating safer roads for commuters and pedestrians.

The department indicated that enforcement drives and monitoring of repeat violators will continue in the coming months as part of ongoing traffic management and road safety initiatives.
