9 May: JAMMU: World Red Cross Day was observed at Red Cross Bhawan in Kachi Chawni by the Indian Red Cross Society Jammu and Kashmir branch, with a strong emphasis on humanitarian service, compassion, and unity.
The event marked the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, who founded the global Red Cross Movement and became the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
This year’s theme, “Unity in Humanity,” reflected the organisation’s commitment to helping vulnerable communities and promoting solidarity during times of crisis and need.
Addressing the gathering, General Secretary Rohit Khajuria highlighted the crucial role played by volunteers and staff members in carrying out relief, healthcare, and humanitarian activities across the region.
He said that volunteers remain the backbone of every humanitarian mission undertaken by the organisation and appreciated their dedication toward serving humanity selflessly. Khajuria emphasized that the spirit of compassion and collective responsibility is essential for building stronger and more resilient communities.
The programme included discussions on the importance of humanitarian values, disaster response, health awareness, and community service. Participants also reflected on the role of the Red Cross Movement in supporting people affected by emergencies, natural disasters, and health crises.
Officials noted that the Indian Red Cross Society continues to play a vital role in Jammu and Kashmir through blood donation drives, medical support programmes, awareness campaigns, and emergency relief efforts.
The event witnessed participation from volunteers, social workers, and members of the humanitarian community, who reiterated their commitment to serving society and helping those in need.
The observance concluded with appreciation for the efforts of volunteers and a renewed pledge to uphold the values of humanity, neutrality, and service.
