6 May: NAGROTA: In a significant relief measure for residents, ₹9.19 crore has been sanctioned for flood protection and infrastructure development in Nagrota, following heavy losses witnessed in 2025. The funding aims to strengthen resilience against future disasters while improving essential public facilities.

Local MLA Devyani Rana highlighted that the allocation reflects a strong focus on preparedness and long-term planning. She stated that the projects will not only address past damages but also reduce vulnerability to future flooding incidents.

The proposed works include construction and strengthening of flood control structures, aimed at protecting residential areas, agricultural land, and critical infrastructure. Officials indicated that these measures will help mitigate risks during heavy rainfall and prevent large-scale damage.

In addition to flood protection, the plan also includes solar lighting installations and improvements in public amenities, ensuring better safety and convenience for residents. The integration of solar infrastructure is expected to promote sustainable energy use while enhancing visibility in vulnerable areas.

The sanction comes in response to the widespread impact of floods in 2025, which caused significant damage to property, livelihoods, and local infrastructure. Authorities have since been working on comprehensive strategies to build resilience and improve disaster management systems.

MLA Devyani Rana emphasized that the focus is on timely execution and quality implementation of the projects. She added that coordinated efforts between departments will be crucial to ensure that the benefits reach people without delays.

Experts believe that investments in flood protection infrastructure can significantly reduce economic losses and improve community safety. Strengthening embankments, drainage systems, and protective barriers is seen as a critical step in disaster preparedness.

Residents have welcomed the move, expressing hope that the new projects will provide lasting relief and prevent a repeat of previous losses. The initiative is expected to contribute to overall development and stability in the Nagrota constituency.

With the approval of funds, work is likely to begin soon, marking a key step toward safeguarding the region against future natural challenges.
