7 May, 2026: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed block of the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Gulmarg, built at a cost of ₹2.03 crore.
The new healthcare facility is expected to significantly improve medical services and healthcare accessibility in the region, benefiting both residents and the large number of tourists visiting Gulmarg throughout the year.
Officials said the upgraded infrastructure will help strengthen the delivery of essential healthcare services by providing improved medical facilities, better patient care, and enhanced operational capacity. The project is part of ongoing efforts to modernise health infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of strengthening grassroots healthcare systems, especially in tourist destinations and remote areas where timely medical access is critical. He noted that better healthcare infrastructure plays a key role in improving public welfare and emergency response capabilities.
The new PHC block has been designed to support quality healthcare delivery, ensuring that residents and visitors receive improved medical attention and basic health services. Authorities believe the facility will reduce pressure on larger hospitals and improve local healthcare response.
Present on the occasion were Sakina Itoo, Nasir Aslam Wani, Farooq Ahmad Shah, and Tanvir Sadiq, along with senior officials and local representatives.
The inauguration reflects the administration’s broader focus on enhancing healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that quality medical services are accessible even in high-altitude and tourist-heavy regions.
Residents welcomed the development, expressing hope that the upgraded facility would improve healthcare support and emergency medical care in the area.
