JUNE 06: In a significant outreach effort, Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited Pawwala Sauda village in Doiwala block, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, as part of the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’. The Minister participated in a Kisan Chaupal, engaging directly with farmers to hear their concerns and offer practical solutions.
Sitting humbly on a traditional charpai amid the fields, Shri Chouhan listened to local farmers who voiced issues related to seeds, irrigation, market access, crop insurance, and fair pricing. Growers of litchi, basmati rice, jackfruit, and vegetables actively participated in the discussions. The Minister was accompanied by Shri Ganesh Joshi, Uttarakhand’s Agriculture Minister, and senior officials from the state agriculture department.
“I come from a farming background. I understand the struggles of our farmers,” Shri Chouhan said. He emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the central government remains committed to doubling farmers’ income and realizing the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
He also planted a sapling under the “One Tree in Mother’s Name” campaign, underscoring his commitment to sustainable farming practices and environmental stewardship.
Shri Chouhan assured that all issues raised during the Chaupal would be addressed promptly and that the Centre and State will work in tandem to transform Uttarakhand into a national horticulture hub. “The quality of the region’s fruits, grains, and vegetables is exceptional and deserves global recognition,” he added.
The Minister commended Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s efforts in advancing agriculture in the state. He also highlighted plans to promote natural farming, modern technologies, water conservation, and better market linkages, both domestic and international.
Addressing the media, he said that visiting the sacred land of Uttarakhand brings renewed energy and clarity. “Such grassroots engagement is vital. It helps assess the actual impact of our schemes and brings the voice of the farmer to the forefront,” he remarked.
