JUNE 28: In a significant step towards strengthening higher education infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, Minister Sakeena Itoo laid the foundation stone for the main academic building and administrative block of the Government Degree College (GDC) Chadoora. The ceremony marked a renewed government commitment to promoting quality education and accessibility for students in the region.
Speaking at the event, Minister Itoo underlined the importance of education in empowering the youth and shaping the future of Jammu and Kashmir. She stated that the government remains fully dedicated to building robust academic institutions that cater to the evolving needs of students in both urban and rural areas.
To enhance student mobility and ease of access to education, she also announced the provision of a dedicated bus service for students of the college. The initiative is expected to benefit many students, particularly those coming from remote villages around Chadoora.
Minister Itoo also took the opportunity to highlight a series of key welfare measures currently being implemented by the government to support underprivileged communities. These include free electricity and ration supplies for eligible households, as well as the introduction of free transport services for women—a move aimed at promoting gender-inclusive development and ensuring women’s safe mobility across regions.
She emphasized that such initiatives are not only about infrastructure and physical facilities but are part of a broader vision of inclusive growth, where education, social welfare, and empowerment work hand in hand to uplift every section of society.
The foundation stone ceremony was attended by local dignitaries, education officials, and members of the public, who welcomed the development with enthusiasm. Many expressed hope that the upcoming college infrastructure would significantly raise the standard of education in the region and open up new opportunities for the youth.
Minister Sakeena Itoo concluded by urging the local community and educational stakeholders to support the government’s mission of delivering accessible, equitable, and quality education to every student in Jammu and Kashmir.
