AUG 14: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has expressed deep concern and solidarity with the people affected by the cloudburst and subsequent flooding in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. The natural disaster, which struck parts of the hilly region, has caused damage to property, disrupted normal life, and left several residents in urgent need of assistance.
In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister conveyed his “thoughts and prayers” for all those impacted, assuring that the situation is being monitored closely at the highest levels. He further stated that “every possible assistance” will be extended to the victims and affected families.
Rescue and relief operations, coordinated by local authorities, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are underway. Teams are working to evacuate stranded residents, provide emergency medical care, and distribute essential supplies such as food, water, and blankets to those in temporary shelters.
The Union Government is in constant touch with the Jammu and Kashmir administration to ensure swift deployment of resources, including engineering units for restoring connectivity to cut-off areas. Additional medical teams and relief materials are also being mobilised to assist the district administration in meeting immediate needs.
The Prime Minister’s assurance comes as part of a broader effort to provide both immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation to those affected. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and cooperate with emergency personnel as further heavy rainfall has been forecast in parts of the region.
