AUG 22: In the aftermath of the recent devastating cloudburst in Kishtwar district, Principal Secretary for Roads & Buildings (R&B) and Mining, Anil Kumar Singh, visited Chashoti area to personally review the ongoing rescue and relief operations. His visit came as part of the government’s intensified efforts to ensure immediate assistance to the affected families and restore essential infrastructure.
During his on-ground assessment, Singh evaluated the extent of damages caused by the cloudburst, which triggered flash floods and landslides in the region. He inspected the condition of vital roads and bridges, many of which have been partially damaged, obstructing connectivity to remote habitations. He directed engineers and district officials to work in close coordination to restore transport links at the earliest, stressing that accessibility is critical for the smooth delivery of relief material and medical aid.
The Principal Secretary also interacted with the rescue teams, local administration, and residents to take first-hand account of the challenges being faced on the ground. He appreciated the efforts of the teams working under tough weather and terrain conditions to evacuate stranded families and provide them with immediate relief.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to rehabilitation and long-term restoration, Singh instructed the concerned departments to ensure that adequate relief reaches all affected households without delay. He also called for a detailed damage assessment report so that financial assistance and rehabilitation packages can be extended swiftly.
Highlighting the importance of preparedness, Singh underlined that lessons must be drawn from the incident to strengthen disaster management mechanisms in vulnerable areas of Kishtwar and other hilly districts of Jammu and Kashmir. He assured the local population that the administration is fully committed to their welfare and that no effort will be spared in bringing normalcy back to the region.
