SEP 03: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Transport, Youth Services & Sports (YSS), Satish Sharma, today carried out an extensive inspection of the Tawi river embankments to assess the rising water levels and review the region’s flood preparedness. His visit comes at a time when continuous rainfall has raised concerns about potential flooding in low-lying areas of Jammu.
During the inspection, Sharma directed officials to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of the river and maintain close coordination among departments to issue timely alerts. He stressed that accurate and swift dissemination of information is crucial to avoid panic and to allow residents enough time to take precautionary measures.
To strengthen relief efforts, the Minister instructed authorities to stockpile essential supplies—food, medicines, drinking water, and emergency equipment—at designated relief centres in advance. This proactive approach, he said, would ensure that affected families receive immediate assistance in case of any emergency evacuation.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to safeguarding public life and property, Sharma announced a personal contribution of two months’ salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The gesture, he emphasized, was both symbolic and practical, aimed at supporting the broader relief and rehabilitation drive. “The government stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Jammu. Every step is being taken to ensure preparedness, minimize risks, and respond swiftly to any crisis,” Sharma assured.
The Minister further directed the concerned departments—Flood Control, Irrigation, Health, Power, and Disaster Management—to remain on high alert and work in close coordination with local authorities. He also urged citizens to stay vigilant, cooperate with officials, and rely only on official advisories for updates.
By combining precautionary inspections, advance preparations, and strong financial support, the government seeks to reassure the public that every effort is being made to manage the flood situation effectively. The proactive measures, coupled with the Minister’s personal contribution, reflect a commitment to both immediate safety and long-term resilience.
