SEP 06: During the Teachers’ Day celebrations in Srinagar, Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha delivered a powerful keynote address, underlining the vital need for our education system to integrate the principles of sustainable development. He emphasized that today’s youth must be equipped not only with academic knowledge but also with a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between human life and the environment.
LG Sinha pointed out that striking a balance between economic growth and environmental preservation is essential for achieving long-term prosperity and social equity. He noted that natural resources are finite, and without proper education and awareness, future generations may face severe ecological consequences. It is therefore imperative that educational institutions encourage young minds to actively participate in protecting biodiversity, preserving ecosystems, and using resources responsibly.
The Lieutenant Governor also drew attention to the growing frequency and intensity of natural disasters around the world, which have led to massive losses—both in terms of lives and infrastructure. These calamities pose a serious threat to societal well-being. In this context, he stressed the urgent need for building climate and disaster resilience through education.
He urged academic institutions to take a proactive role in improving early warning systems and working closely with local communities. Nature-based solutions, he said, are key to tackling the challenges of climate change and ensuring long-term environmental sustainability.
In closing, LG Sinha called upon teachers to inspire students to think beyond textbooks and to cultivate a sense of responsibility toward the planet. Education, he said, must become a driving force for sustainable progress, helping youth become not just job-seekers but conscientious global citizens.
