SEP 06: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a high-level emergency meeting this morning to assess the post-flood situation across the region. He issued strict directions for the immediate reinforcement of vulnerable embankments, swift evacuation of residents from waterlogged villages, and continuous monitoring via control rooms operating round-the-clock.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need for frequent on-ground visits by officials to the flood-affected areas and the timely dissemination of advisories to ensure residents remain alert and calm. He called upon the public to cooperate with the administration to ensure effective relief operations.
Emphasizing the urgency of restoring essential public services, CM Abdullah directed the concerned departments to expedite the restoration of electricity, water supply, and road connectivity. He announced the immediate release of ₹5 crores from the Union Territory’s CapEx budget to bolster relief operations, in addition to funds available under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
In response to widespread crop damage, the Chief Minister instructed Deputy Commissioners and officials from the Agriculture Department to carry out a comprehensive assessment of losses in both Jammu and Kashmir provinces. He also acknowledged the importance of the Mughal Road, which has become a critical alternative route due to the ongoing blockage of NH-44.
Further, the Health Department was directed to stay vigilant and prepare for any outbreaks of water-borne or post-flood diseases, ensuring timely medical response where needed.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the people, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured that safety, rapid relief delivery, and restoration of normalcy in the flood-hit regions of the Kashmir Valley remain the government’s top priorities. He urged all departments to maintain high coordination levels to mitigate the crisis effectively and support the affected communities during this challenging time.
