OCT 25:Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha felicitated Jammu and Kashmir’s talented craftspersons at the Pashmina Artisan Awards Ceremony, celebrating their exceptional contribution to preserving the region’s centuries-old tradition of fine craftsmanship.

Speaking at the event, the Lt. Governor lauded the artisans and weavers who have upheld the timeless legacy of Pashmina, one of the world’s most exquisite and sought-after handwoven textiles. He emphasized that J&K is a repository of rich creative tradition, and its artisans are the true custodians of cultural heritage and artistic excellence.

Calling upon citizens to “buy local and empower our great artisans,” LG Sinha underlined the importance of supporting local craftsmanship through conscious consumer choices. He said that every purchase of a handmade product from Jammu and Kashmir contributes to strengthening livelihoods, promoting self-reliance, and preserving traditional artistry for future generations.

Highlighting the growing global recognition of J&K’s handmade products, the Lt. Governor said that the region’s artisans are not only preserving traditional skills but also adapting them to modern markets with innovative designs and quality craftsmanship. He assured that the government is committed to providing artisans with every possible support, including market linkages, design innovation, and financial assistance, to help them thrive in competitive national and international markets.

LG Sinha further stated that initiatives under the “Vocal for Local” and “One District, One Product” (ODOP) campaigns have created new opportunities for J&K’s artisan community. He emphasized that Pashmina and other indigenous crafts have become powerful symbols of India’s creative economy and cultural identity, reflecting the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The event also featured an exhibition of handwoven Pashmina shawls, stoles, and other artisanal products, showcasing the remarkable skill, precision, and dedication of J&K’s weaving community.

The Lt. Governor extended his best wishes to all awardees and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to empower artisans, promote traditional industries, and expand the global footprint of Jammu and Kashmir’s handmade treasures.
