NOV 30:The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in partnership with C-DAC, the Indian Toy Industry, and the LEGO Group, marked a major milestone for India’s electronic toy ecosystem with the inauguration of a dedicated e-Toys Lab and the convocation of the second batch of engineers trained under MeitY’s specialised Electronic Toys Project. The initiative—formally known as Development of Electronics and IT-based Control and Automation Solutions for Consumer Electronic Goods (Toy Industry)—aims to build a skilled workforce capable of powering a robust and inclusive indigenous electronic toy manufacturing sector.
The programme focuses on hands-on learning and practical R&D, especially for students from underrepresented communities, including SC/ST categories and candidates from the North Eastern Region. The selected young engineers spent the first six months at the e-Toys Lab in C-DAC Noida, where they were trained in designing, developing, and testing electronic toy components. They then underwent six months of industry-based training, developing toy prototypes aligned with current market and manufacturing needs. Each participant received a monthly stipend of ₹25,000 throughout the year-long programme, ensuring accessibility and equal opportunity.
During the convocation ceremony held on 29 November 2025 at MeitY, Additional Secretary Shri Amitesh Kumar Sinha inaugurated the newly established e-Toys Lab. He highlighted that India’s electronic toy market is rapidly expanding and stressed the critical role of electronics and IT in shaping a competitive, innovation-driven toy industry. He emphasised that the initiative has laid foundational building blocks for the sector and suggested that the programme could be scaled up further to benefit more students and create wider industrial impact.
Shri Sinha added that the new Centre of Excellence (CoE) for e-Toys at C-DAC Noida will collaborate with NIELIT, MSH, and other institutions to nurture entrepreneurship and startups in the toy domain. The event was attended by senior officials, industry representatives, and members of the Indian electronic toys ecosystem.
With this initiative, MeitY continues its mission to empower youth, strengthen indigenous R&D, and accelerate India’s emergence as a global hub for innovative and safe electronic toys.
