24 April: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has reviewed arrangements for summer special trains, as Indian Railways prepares to operate over 18,000 additional trips to manage the surge in passenger demand during the peak travel season.
The review focused on ensuring smooth operations, passenger convenience, and efficient crowd management across major routes. With schools closing for summer vacations and increased inter-state travel, railway authorities are anticipating a significant rise in passenger traffic in the coming weeks.
Officials informed that the special trains will be deployed on high-demand routes, connecting major cities and popular destinations. The initiative aims to reduce waiting lists, ease congestion in regular trains, and provide affordable travel options to passengers.
During the review meeting, the Minister emphasized the importance of timely scheduling, safety measures, and improved onboard services. He directed officials to ensure proper maintenance of coaches, availability of clean drinking water, and adequate sanitation facilities for passengers.
The plan also includes enhanced monitoring of ticket bookings and crowd flow, especially at major railway stations. Additional staff and support systems are being deployed to handle the expected rush and assist passengers during peak hours.
Indian Railways has been taking proactive steps in recent years to manage seasonal travel demand through special trains and improved infrastructure. The introduction of over 18,000 trips this season reflects a large-scale effort to cater to passenger needs efficiently.
The Minister also reviewed the use of technology-driven solutions, including real-time tracking systems and digital ticketing platforms, to improve operational efficiency and passenger experience.
Experts believe that such measures will significantly ease travel during the busy summer months, ensuring that passengers can reach their destinations with greater convenience and reduced delays.
The initiative underscores the Railways’ commitment to providing safe, reliable, and accessible transportation to millions of passengers across the country. With comprehensive planning and monitoring, authorities aim to make summer travel smoother and more comfortable for all.
